What you’re saying might not be so incompatible with what the people who criticise the church are saying. For example “His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known…” Your point was that the church should be a testimony to God’s wisdom, and perhaps critics feel that God’s intentions are being thwarted by the lack of wisdom in the church? Not sure if I’m making my point clear.
