    Interfering with the local church

    Joe Martino asks the question:

    So if Tim Reed, Owosso Mi is sitting in his office surfing the net and one of the three churches in town produces a video about God loving people, is it Tim’s place to put up a hit piece about the failings of that video?

    So the question becomes, at what point do Christians who have no connection with a church get to stand in judgment over that church?

      Christians have no rights of judgement. That is reserved for God. Warning those you pastor about questionable theology is a responsibility of a pastor, but my thought is that the ODM’s do nothing but portray Christ’s church as divided.

      Just my opinion.

      Heath, I seem to remember Jesus commanding us to judge in John 7:24. The catch is that we must do it not according to appearance, but righteously.

      Before you cite Matt 7:1-5, consider the context of that passage. It’s clear that it’s condemning hypocritical judgment, not judgment per se.

      The judgement that Christians are permitted is in the context of community. Hence my comment about a pastor’s authority and duty. But I was actually thinking more along the lines of James 4:11-12 and the entirety of Romans 14. Boyd has a chapter on this topic in a book I am reading… Way to much stuff to quote here.
