Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in My Word, then are ye My disciples indeed; And ye shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free. - John 8:31-32 (KJV)
Reading the King James Version of the Bible is akin to reading/hearing pirate speech. Fun and humorous at times, but doesn’t help communicate so well anymore.
Why do we insist on making people learn a new language to know Christ? Now, I’m fine with learning a new language because we know Christ, such as the desire to learn Greek and Hebrew, or simply the process of learning how to speak in a way that glorifies God, but otherwise we are putting up an unnecessary barrier. I don’t care what you use for your own devotions (although there will be plenty of words in the KJV that will mislead you if you don’t know better), but to insist that everybody uses that version because it’s the one God ordained is rediculous.

Very well put. As I understand it, why repeat one of the grave difficulties facing Islam?

I’m still amazed that there are churches where this is an issue… But then again when I bring up the issue with my grandmother, who is a lifelong Nazarene, she gets pretty defensive too… Thank goodness for the NIV (aka the Nazarene Inspired Version, lol).

I cannot understand why anyone would object to another good translation. However, like Shakesphere, the KJV does offer some flowery prose which has a literary fragrance to some of us who paid attention in journalism class.
I know, you guys were absent with hangovers!

Rick, I’m a teetotaler and that offends me.
I didn’t take journalism. And I’ve heard that argument before and happen to agree with you. Unfortunately for those that are KJV only, that flies in the face of any argument they would make.

The KJV only people give inerrancy people a bad name. That view in my view sitsin the same pew as the literal six day creation theory.
When we see a supernova explosion and the star is millions of light years away, must we conclude that the Creator constructed a mirage that presents an event that did not take place. I cannot see any purpose for that deception.
